new councilwoman - nithya raman

As followers of this site know, former Councilman David Ryu was a forceful advocate on our behalf last Summer and before he left office, he and his team advanced several critical legislative initiatives important to our cause.

First and foremost was the motion to extend the Hillside Construction Regulation zoning overlay ("HCR") to cover lower Coldwater Canyon and including the Bowmont/Hazen neighborhood. For your future reference, here is a link to the City Clerk's file: https://cityclerk.lacity.org/lacityclerkconnect/index.cfm?fa=ccfi.viewrecord&cfnumber=20-1101

In a nutshell, the HCR overlay triggers "Site Plan Review" for any new dwelling project exceeding 17,500 square feet. As described in the LA Municipal Code, Site Plan Review triggers CEQA compliance and the possibility of community impact hearings. This would be fatal to any future Hadid sized projects in our area.

Following Councilman Ryu's departure, we reached out to his successor, Nithya Raman to find out where she stood on Councilman Ryu's HCR initiative, as well as other important measures helpful to saving our hillsides. We are pleased to report that Councilwoman Raman is mindful of our concerns regarding developers like Hadid and has agreed to work closely with us to make sure the HCR initiative currently working its way through City Council becomes law and to address other community matters.

Members of our core group met with the Councilwoman's staff in January and plans are being put in place to execute on the progress already made and to pursue other beneficial community measures. Stay tuned for more details.
